D’Arce
Choke
The arm triangle from hell. Thread the arm, trap the neck, and watch them go to sleep. Depth is everything.
Depth Before
Squeeze.
The D’Arce fails when you squeeze too early. Your arm must travel deep under their armpit before you lock. No depth, no choke—just a tired grip.
Arm Depth
Your choking arm goes UNDER their armpit, not over. Thread until your bicep reaches the back of their neck. If you can’t touch your other arm, go deeper.
The Trap
Their arm must be trapped between their own neck and your chest. This creates the “triangle” that compresses both carotids at once.
Roll Direction
Always roll toward their trapped arm side. Rolling the wrong way releases pressure and gives them space to escape.
3 Setups.
Same Kill.
The D’Arce appears in different positions. The grip stays the same—the entry changes.
Side Control
D’Arce
They try to underhook from bottom side control. You swim under their arm, thread deep, and lock the figure-four. Classic.
Turtle
D’Arce
From front headlock on turtle. Arm goes under the far armpit while you sprawl. Their posture is already broken—easy finish.
Standing
D’Arce
Off a sprawled single leg. They shoot, you sprawl, thread the arm while their head is down. Drag them to the mat already locked.
The
Finishing
Mechanic
The squeeze comes from your chest and shoulder, not your arms. Lock the grip, then use your whole body.
-
Figure-Four Grip
Choking hand grabs your other bicep. Free hand goes behind their shoulder blade or cups your own head.
-
Chest Pressure
Drive your chest into their trapped arm. This forces their shoulder into their own neck—that’s the choke.
-
Hip Walk
Walk your hips toward their head while squeezing. This tightens the space and makes the choke inescapable.
3 Mistakes
That Kill Your D’Arce
Not Deep Enough
If your bicep isn’t behind their neck, you’re just hugging them. Thread the arm until you can grab your own bicep without straining.
Wrong Roll Direction
Rolling away from their trapped arm opens space. Always roll TOWARD the trapped arm—their shoulder drives into their own neck.
Arm Squeeze Only
Trying to squeeze with just your arms burns your grip fast. Use chest pressure and hip movement—your arms just maintain the lock.
4 Entry
Windows
The D’Arce appears when they expose their armpit. Hunt for these moments.
Underhook Attempt
From side control, they try to underhook. Swim under and thread the D’Arce instead.
Half Guard Recovery
They come up for the underhook from half guard. Perfect—their arm is already in position.
Turtle Breakdown
Front headlock on turtle. Thread under the far arm while you have head control.
Sprawl Counter
They shoot a sloppy single. Sprawl, snap the head, thread the arm while standing.
