Ezekiel
Choke
The sneakiest choke in BJJ. From mount, from guard—even from inside their guard. Your forearm becomes a blade.
The Blade Is
Your Forearm.
The Ezekiel doesn’t require complex grips—just your own arms. One forearm across the throat, the other hand locks it in place. Simple and devastating.
Forearm Placement
The bony edge of your forearm (near the wrist) goes across their throat. Not the soft part—the BONE. This creates the crushing pressure.
Grip Your Own Arm
Your other hand grabs your own wrist or forearm. In gi, you grab inside your sleeve. No-gi, grip your wrist. This locks the frame.
Drive Forward
The finish comes from driving your weight forward while pulling your grip hand back. Push and pull together—the forearm sinks deeper.
3 Positions.
One Choke.
The Ezekiel works from almost anywhere. That’s what makes it dangerous—they never see it coming.
Mount
Ezekiel
The classic. From mount, slide one arm under their head. The other forearm goes across the throat. Grip your wrist and squeeze while driving forward.
Inside Guard
Ezekiel
They have you in closed guard? No problem. Set the choke while they think they’re safe. Finishing from inside their guard is the ultimate disrespect.
Side Control
Ezekiel
From side control, slide the arm under their head. Instead of going for the arm triangle, bring the choking forearm across and lock it in.
The
No-Gi
Grip
Without the gi sleeve, you grip your own wrist or forearm. The mechanics are the same—forearm blade across the throat, other hand anchors.
-
Arm Under Head First
Slide one arm under their head/neck. This arm anchors and traps their head in place.
-
Forearm Across Throat
Bring the other forearm across their throat. The wrist/forearm bone is the pressure point.
-
Grip And Drive
Grip your own wrist. Drive forward with your body while pulling your grip back. The forearm digs in.
3 Mistakes
That Kill Your Ezekiel
Soft Part Of Forearm
Using the fleshy part of your forearm won’t create enough pressure. Rotate your arm so the BONY edge (radius bone near wrist) contacts their throat.
No Head Trap
If their head can move freely, they’ll escape. Your arm under their head must TRAP it before you apply the choking forearm.
Squeezing Only
The Ezekiel isn’t just a squeeze—you need to DRIVE forward while pulling back with the grip. Push and pull together creates the finish.
4 Entry
Windows
The Ezekiel works when they’re focused on other threats. Attack when they least expect it.
Mount Defense
They’re pushing on your hips to escape mount. They’re not protecting the neck—attack.
Guard Stall
Stuck in their closed guard? Instead of passing, attack the neck. Total surprise.
Americana Bait
Fake the americana. They defend the arm. Slide to the Ezekiel while distracted.
Cross Collar Fake
In gi, attack cross collar. They defend high. Switch to Ezekiel below their defense.
